1. W. W. Struve, in his work on the Moscow Mathematical Papyrus (published
1930), noted that the curator of the Odessa Museum at that time communicated
to him that there were certain papyri in the museum's collection which
contained circular drawings. (See footnote 1 on pages 178-179 of Struve's
Mathematischer Papyrus Des Staatlichen Museums Der Schoenen Kuenste in
Moskau). The context of the discussion is in regard to documents of the
Egyptian Middle Kingdom period.
2. I am trying to follow-up on a comment made by W. W. Struve, in his work on
the Moscow Mathematical Papyrus, where he noted that both the Odessa and
Hermitage Museums have certain papyri in their collections which contain
circular drawings. (See footnote 1 on pages 178-179 of Struve's
Mathematischer Papyrus Des Staatlichen Museums Der Schoenen Kuenste in
Moskau).
3. In footnote 1 on p. 178 of Mathematischer Papyrus Des Staatlichen Museums Der Schoenen Kuenste in Moskau, W. W. Struve refered to an article then being written by an Egyptology student named I. Katznelson which "proved" that the ancient Egyptians knew how to find the circumference of a circle. Struve mentioned that Katznelson's article was soon to be published. I a mwondering if you could help me find this article. I have not been able to locate it thus far.
Many thanks,
Leon.
